Abstract: Literature data on the formation of carcinogenic N-nitrosamines in the environment, their physicochemical properties, their action on the human organism, the methods for their microanalysis, and also their content in the atmosphere, water sources, soil, and industrial agricultural and food products are described systematically and surveyed. The principal features of this comparatively new class of powerful chemical carcinogens are indicated.
