Electrophoretic-electrochemical Deposition of Polymers and Metals

Yu. F. Deinega, Z. R. Ul'berg

Institute of Colloid and Water Chemistry, USSR Academy of Sciences Department of Natural Disperse Systems, Kiev
Abstract: The physicochemical principles of the formation of composite polymeric and metallopolymer coatings by the electrodeposition of polymer dispersions in water and electrolyte solutions are described. The electrophoretic and electrophoretic-electrochemical mechanisms for the formation of the polymer and metallopolymer coatings are examined. The role of the chemisorption interaction of the polymers and colloidal metals in increasing the protective properties of the coatings is demonstrated. The new phenomenon of "electrophoretic" polarisation and its influence on the electrode processes are considered.
