Abstract:
Present-day theories of ion solvation have been examined. The experimental values of the standard free energies of resolvation and the standard redistribution potentials of ions between water and organic solvents have been given. The contribution of dielectric saturation to the electrostatic component of the free energy of resolvation has been analysed. The results of theoretical calculations have been compared with the experimental dependence of the standard free energy of solvation on the static and optical dielectric constants of the solvents, and also on the size of the ions. The solvophobic contribution to the energy of resolvation has been estimated. The bibliography contains 100 references.
