Abstract: The conditions for the synthesis, the thermodynamics of the formation and decomposition, the structure, and the nature of the chemical bond in the halogen cations are examined. The electronic, vibrational, nuclear quadrupole resonance, and nuclear magnetic resonance spectra are analysed and questions concerning the practical application of the halogen cations as some of the most powerful oxidants, are discussed.
The bibliography includes 216 references.
