Abstract: The principal theoretical and experimental approaches to the study of the influence of the steric effects of substituents on the properties of organic and organoelemental compounds are examined. The role of these effects in complex formation with participation of organic compounds of silicon subgroup elements and the influence of steric effects on the conjugation in these compounds are analysed.
