Abstract: The methods of synthesis of isobutene polymers with end groups of different types are examined. It is shown that advances in the synthesis of these compounds are associated with the progress in the field of the regulation of the cationic polymerisation and copolymerisation of isobutene and the degradation of isobutene polymers and copolymers. Examples of the employment of functional derivatives of isobutene polymers in various branches of technology are presented.
