Abstract: Various criteria of aromaticity and their relation with molecular structure are discussed. The characteristics of the quantum-chemical calculations of the electronic structure and geometry of antiaromatic molecules, determined by the specific structure of their potential energy surfaces corresponding to the ground and lowest excited states, are analysed.
