Abstract: A systematic account is given of quantitative data on the properties of the hydrogen bonds formed by CH acids as proton donors and the influence of the nature of the substituents and of the steric and electronic structures of CH acids on the strength of these bonds is discussed. The studies in recent years devoted to the equilibrium and kinetic CH acidity are examined and the factors responsible for what is in many instances an "anomalous" behaviour of CH acids are analysed. The proton-donating capacity in hydrogen bonds and CH acidity are compared.
