Phase Equilibria and Mutual Diffusion in Polymer – Polymer Systems with Chlorine-containing Components

The experimental studies of the phase equilibria and mutual diffusion in polymer mixtures are examined. A thermodynamic analysis of the phase equilibria in the poly(vinyl chloride) – poly(methyl methacrylate) and chloropolyethylene – poly(methyl methacrylate) systems is presented within the framework of classical and new theories; the influence of the previous history of the specimens and of the chemical structure and stereoregularity of the polymer chains on the phase composition of the mixtures is demonstrated. The translational mobility of the macromolecules in the highly elastic and highly fluid states and its role in the formation of the phase structure of the mixtures and also the irreversible changes in the phase structure on thermal decomposition of chlorine-containing polymers are considered.
