Abstract: The review deals with new reactions of methane in the presence of organometallic catalysts. The available data on deuterium–hydrogen exchange between methane and the methyl groups of the catalyst and on the reactions involving the addition of methane to low-valence transition metal complexes and to unsaturated hydrocarbons are surveyed. Certain other aspects of the chemistry of methane of theoretical and applied interest are considered.
