Abstract: A survey is made of primary photoprocesses in dye molecules in solution — photophysical processes in excited singlet and triplet states (absorption from an excited level, vibrational and rotational relaxation, lifetimes, quantum efficiencies of fluorescence, intersystem and internal conversions, deactivation and quenching of the triplet state, etc.) and primary photochemical reactions (cis–trans-isomerisation, electron transfer, etc.). A list of 309 references is included.
