Abstract: The kinetics of ion–molecule exchange reactions (IMR), which are important in high-energy and analytical chemistry, are discussed, and their special features and the factors influencing the reaction rate are analysed. Special attention is paid to slow IMR with rate constants substantially smaller than the gas-kinetic ion–molecule collision rate.
