Abstract: The present state of research into the reactivities of 1,3,2-diheterophospholans and 1,3,2-diheterophosphorinanes with a tetracoordinate phosphorus atom, containing in five- and six-membered rings, two identical or two different hetero-atoms (O, S, or N) together with the phosphorus atom, is described. Attention is concentrated on the differences between the reactivities of cyclic and acyclic organophosphorus compounds with the same ligand environment of the phosphorus atom. The influence of the introduction of a phosphorus atom into the ring on the reactivity of cyclic compounds is demonstrated.
