Abstract: The mechanisms of one- and two-electron oxidation of organometallic compounds by transition metal salts are considered. It is shown that organometallic compounds can be oxidised as a result of dielectric electron transfer but usually unstable transition metal compounds are formed as intermediates in the reactions. The mechanisms of the thermal and catalytic decomposition of certain types of organometallic compounds are discussed in this connection.
