Abstract: The principal results of studies on charge-transfer π-complexes (CTC) with an organic cation (carbonium, heteroaromatic, and hetero-onium) as the acceptor are examined and problems of the classification of the CTC on the basis of the structures of the ground and excited states are discussed. The thermodynamic and spectroscopic data for the type of CTC considered are analysed. The results of the determination of the electron affinities of the acceptor cations are examined and surveyed. Ideas concerning the photochemical properties of the CTC or arenediazonium ions, which are of interest as materials for the recording of information, are described.
