Abstract: We shall review the discovery of this element, studies of its chemical nature, and modern ideas on its chemical and physical properties. Possible chemical and nuclear-chemical methods of synthesising new radon compounds and of determining their properties and their identity will be discussed, using information published up to May 1980. 121 references.
