Abstract: The results of fundamental studies on different methods of oxidising aldehydes and ketones by oxygen are presented; the purely thermal oxidation, the photochemical oxidation, as well as the low-temperature oxidation in alkaline media are considered. The general postulates of the reaction mechanisms are described and specific instances involving aliphatic, alicyclic, saturated, and aromatic ketones as well as the mechanisms of the decomposition of the hydroperoxides of α-ketones are surveyed.
The bibliography includes 101 references.
