Abstract: The advances in the synthesis and chemical reactions of boron-substituted functional derivatives of carbaboranes are described. The qualitative and quantitative differences between the reactivities of the functional groups linked to the hexacoordinate boron atom in carbaboranes and the functional groups in the corresponding derivatives of tri-coordinate boron are demonstrated.
