Abstract: A systematic account is given of data on the structures and spectroscopic properties of transition metal complexes with synthetic tetradentate macrocyclic ligands. The principal types of the structures of such complexes are specified. On the basis of the analysis of electronic absorption spectra, a conclusion is reached concerning the mutual influence of the ligands, which is expressed by a consistent variation of the spectrochemical parameters.
