Abstract: The elementary sorption processes taking place in a chromatographic column are discussed. The reasons for the lack of reproducibility of retention data in GLC are analysed. The basic requirements for a chromatographic apparatus capable of giving high-precision retention data are formulated, and conditions suitable for the measurement of retention quantities for identification are recommended. 243 references.
