The Sedimentation of Polydisperse Polymers
I. K. Nekrasov Research Institute of Synthetic Fiber with the Pilot Plant, Kalinin
Abstract:
The most important problems in the sedimentation of one component of two-component mixtures and polydisperse polymers have been discussed. Particular attention has been paid to the application of theory in the treatment of sedimentation data. It has been shown that to calculate the molecular mass distribution (MMD) from sedimentation diagrams of polydisperse polymers, the best theory is that based on the Trautman relationships describing the Johnston–Ogston effect for the case of a binary mixture, the concept of local concentration, and the principle of additivity of the paired interactions of the components of the mixture. Allowance for the diffusion broadening of the curves is made using Fujita's theory by means of model functions. The distribution with respect to the sedimentation coefficients (or the MMD) is calculated by means of a computer from one recording. The bibliography contains 99 references.
