The Addition of Sulphenyl Chlorides to Unsaturated Compounds

One of the aspects of the chemistry of sulphenyl chlorides, which is vigorously developing at the present time, is examined. It involves their interaction with unsaturated compounds. The application of modern physical research techniques has made it possible to investigate the addition of sulphenyl chlorides to asymmetric olefins, which results as a rule in the formation of a mixture of isomeric β-halogenoalkyl sulphides. The interconversions of the β-halogenoalkyl sulphides, associated with the vicinal positions of the halogen and sulphur atoms in the molecule, are considered. The high reactivity of the halogen and sulphur atoms in the molecule, are considered. The high reactivity of the halogen permits its ready nucleophilic substitution with formation of a series of new interesting compounds.
