Abstract: The problem of intramolecular coordination in organic derivatives of non-transition elements is surveyed and critically considered. Only those inner complexes (in an unreacting molecule or in the transition state) where the chain with the donor atom is linked to the element only via carbon atoms are considered. The data are treated systematically on the basis of the type of ligand. It is shown that intramolecular coordination is the driving force in various molecular rearrangements and many elimination reactions involving organic derivatives of the elements.
