Abstract:
Analysis of data for the transmission of electronic effects in various biaryl systems has shown that the introduction of a bridge group between two benzene rings can both weaken and enhance the interaction between a substituent and a functional centre located in different rings. The nature and mechanisms of the enhanced transmission of electronic influences in bridged systems, called the positive bridge effect (PBE), have been examined and the principal conditions for the manifestation of PBE have been formulated. The bibliography includes 192 references.
