Abstract: Use of the Gibbs method and of a layer of finite thickness to calculate the thermodynamic characteristics of surface layers is examined. The chief properties of surface layers have been calculated for 35 aqueous salt systems from experimental data. The influence of the nature of the dissolved salt on the properties of solutions and surface layers is discussed on the basis of the calculated results.
