Abstract: The modern views on the kinetics and mechanism of the chemisorption of oxygen on group IB metals and their surface oxidation (up to the appearance of an oxide phase) are described. Processes occurring in the temperature range from 0° to 300–400°C, which are of interest in connection with problems of catalysis and radioelectronics, are mainly considered.
