Abstract: The problems of the fragmentation of transition metal π-complexes under the influence of electron impact are examined. The mass spectra of this class of compounds reflect fairly well the differences in the nature and stability of the metal–ligand bond as well as structural and other differences. Together with the rupture of the metal–ligand bond, electron impact results in the partial fragmentation of the ligands linked to the metal atom by π-bonds, the nature and degree of fragmentation depending on the nature and molecular weight of the ligand.
