Abstract: In the review an attempt is made for the first time to give a systematic account of the available extensive literature data on the methods for the dissociation of N–N single bonds in organic compounds. Reductive and acid cleavage, various rearrangements, interaction with oxidants, and thermal and photochemical processes have been examined. In order to account for the characteristics of the dissociation of N–N bonds, data for the energy characteristics of the N–N and N≡N groups are adduced.
