Abstract: Publications on the electrochemical initiation of polymerisation are surveyed, and methods are classified on the basis of the mechanism of the electrode reaction in which active centres are formed and the mechanism of growth of the polymer chain. The laws of the electrochemical initiation of radical and ionic polymerisation are analysed, and the advantages and prospects of the latter are shown. The features and possibilities of electrochemical initiation, leading to the formation of linear and network polymers, are examined on specific examples. A list of 138 references is included.
