Abstract: The contemporary state of the problem of the proton-donating ability of the mercapto-group and the proton-accepting ability of a sulphur atom in sulphur-containing compounds in the formation of a hydrogen bond is described. The effect of the hydrogen bond on various physicochemical properties of sulphur-containing compounds is examined. A comparison is also made of the ability of sulphur-containing compounds and their oxygen-containing analogues to form a hydrogen bond. 306 references.
