Abstract: A brief account is given of the analytical properties of complexes formed by metals with derivatives of 1,10-phenanthroline and 2,2'-bipyridyl, compounds that are widely used in chemical technology, biochemistry, and especially analysis. Detailed consideration is given to the possibilities and limitations of analytical methods based on various properties of these complexes (light absorption, luminescence, solubility, redox properties, etc). A list of 249 references is included.
