Abstract: The preparation and the chemical properties of trialkyloxonium fluoroborates – highly effective alkylating agents – are surveyed. Special attention is paid to the O-alkylation of organic compounds (ethers, epoxides, oxo- and hydroxy-derivatives, N-oxides, etc.).
