Chromatography of Carbohydrates on Ion-exchange Resins

The literature data dealing with an effective method for the analysis of a mixture of carbohydrates using ion-exchange resins are reviewed. The separation of carbohydrates by this method is based on three main principles: (1) ion exchange; (2) adsorption and gel filtration; (3) partition chromatography. The use of ion-exchange resins yields clear cut qualitative and quantitative results and the analytical process may be automated. The method is distinguished by higher reliability and sensitivity and satisfactory reproducibility.
