Recent Advances in Ion-exchange Catalysis
N. G. Polyanskii Tambov Institute of Chemical Machinery
Abstract:
Since the last review article on this topic was published by the writer seven years ago, a great deal of experimental information on the use of ion-exchange resins as organic reaction catalysts has become available, the range of techniques for ion-exchange catalysis has been extended, new types of resin have been examined, and some important theoretical generalisations have been formulated. Reviews by Andreas, Sugihara, Kaldor, and Mulder have dealt with various aspects of the problem: the most extensive of these gives 136 references, mainly up to 1960. The present article discusses some theoretical problems in ion-exchange catalysis, and the use of ion-exchange resins as catalysts in the hydration, dehydration, hydrolysis, esterification, alkylation, polymerisation, isomerisation, and condensation of organic compounds. 254 references.
