Phosphorus Hydrides

The chemistry of phosphorus hydrides has assumed considerable importance – phosphine is the starting material for the synthesis of numerous organophosphorus compounds and fire resistant polymers; in recent years phosphorus hydrides have begun to be used in the semiconductor industry for the preparation of metal phosphides with a high degree of purity. The range of applications of phosphorus hydrides has increased in connection with the synthesis of a new class of complex compounds.
The review deals with the physical and chemical properties of the phosphorus hydrides investigated. The methods of synthesis of phosphorus hydrides, particularly phosphine, are examined. The applications of phosphine in industry are discussed. The bibliography comprises 141 references.
