The Mechanism of the Initiation of the Radical Polymerisation of Polar Monomers in Systems Comprising Organometallic Compounds

Abstract:
In the present review an attempt is made to examine from the same standpoint the reactions responsible for the development of radical polymerisation in systems comprising organometallic compounds in combination with oxygen-containing derivatives (oxygen, hydroperoxides, acyl peroxide) or derivatives of variable-valence metals. Attention has been concentrated on systems effective at a low temperature. The causes responsible for the inhibition or total suppression of ionic-coordination polymerisation of polar monomers and favouring the development of the radical process in systems of the Ziegler–Natta type have been discussed. The bibliography includes 135 references.
