Abstract: This review examines various general historical aspects of Shpol'skii's method, together with the results obtained for various classes of organic compound; problems of the relationship between the form of the vibronic spectrum and molecular structure are considered, and various analytical applications of the procedure of quasi-line spectra are described briefly. The bibliography contains 161 references.
