Abstract: In contrast to free-radical polymerisation, there is no single theory of anionic polymerisation which could explain all the observed phenomena, these being treated usually from different standpoints. In the present review an attempt is made at a critical analysis of the existing hypotheses in this field. The bibliography includes 90 references.
