Abstract: A detailed description is given of the chemical properties of 1,3-dioxans. Special attention is paid to their thermal and catalytic reactions, and also to the preparation from them of various 1,3-bifunctional aliphatic compounds. Detailed consideration is given to the hydrolysis and the alcoholysis of dioxans, and their interaction with derivatives of carboxylic acids and also with certain inorganic compounds containing labile halogen atoms, etc. The mechanism of the various reactions of 1,3-dioxans are surveyed and discussed in detail on the basis of numerous examples. The bibliography contains 155 references.
