Abstract: Present knowledge on the methods of synthesis, properties and transformations of nitro- and dinitrocyclopropanes is generalized and described systematically. The main attention is given to the methods of stereoselective cyclopropanation, new approaches to the synthesis of natural compounds and their synthetic analogues with diverse biological activity, in particular, the nitrocyclopropane-based synthesis of aminocyclopropanecarboxylic acids as well as to the construction of energetic compounds.
