Abstract: Data on the methods of synthesis and the reactivity of α-acyl lactams are described systematically and generalized. The attention is focused on the recent achievements in the synthesis of heterocyclic compounds and biologically active substances from α-acyl lactams and cyclic imines derived from the latter compounds.
