Abstract: The synthesis and properties of the most popular and widely used electrically conducting polymer, polyaniline, are considered. The proposed mechanisms of the molecular synthesis and self-assembly of macromolecules occurring during the polymerization agree with the large body of experimental data. The reaction medium acidity is demonstrated to affect the mechanism of aniline oxidative polymerization and the formation of different types of supramolecular structures, namely, nanoglobules, nanofibres, nanotubes and microspheres.
