Abstract: Theoretical and experimental data on the electronic structure, chemical bonding, and charge distributions in condensed boron and solid-phase boron compounds with a number of sp-elements are reviewed. The applicability of quantum chemistry methods to a description of the physicochemical properties of boron and borides of nonmetals, as well as prospects of using computational methods in the theoretical materials science of borides, are discussed. The bibliography includes 452 references.
