Boron and its compounds with nonmetals: chemical bonding and the electronic properties

Theoretical and experimental data on the electronic structure, chemical bonding, and charge distributions in condensed boron and solid-phase boron compounds with a number of sp-elements are reviewed. The applicability of quantum chemistry methods to a description of the physicochemical properties of boron and borides of nonmetals, as well as prospects of using computational methods in the theoretical materials science of borides, are discussed.
