Abstract: The structure of intermediate surface compounds in heterogeneous catalytic reactions involving H2, CO, and NO is discussed. The relative reliability of the role of various structures in catalysis is discussed. Schemes for the reaction mechanism which have been developed from information on the surface complexes are described. The bibliography includes 248 references.
