Abstract: The results of studies on nonthermal chemical reactions induced by the deformation of solids are summarised in the review. Attention is concentrated on the analysis of processes involving the dissipation of elastic energy, the description of the nature and properties of the intermediate nonequilibrium states, and also studies of processes involving the low-temperature molecular mixing of solid reagents. The possible trends in further research are discussed. The bibliography includes 89 references.
