Spin probes in micelles
A. M. Wasserman N. N. Semenov Institute of Chemical Physics, Russian Academy of Sciences, Moscow
Abstract:
The results of studies of the molecular dynamics and structure of direct, polymeric and reverse micelles by the spin probe method using stationary ESR spectroscopy and electron spin echo spectroscopy are considered. The spin probes permit the determination of the characteristic rotation times, shapes and sizes of micelles and the local molecular mobility and polarity of different micelle regions. They also make it possible to record the processes involving the formation of micelles and premicellar aggregates and to determine the state of water in the cores of reverse micelles. Electron spin echo spectroscopy provides information about the detergent conformation and the permeability of the hydrocarbon regions of micelles. The bibliography includes 78 references.
