Abstract: Studies on the thermodynamics of plane-parallel thin liquid films (emulsion and foam films) are surveyed. Various approaches to the thermodynamics of planar non-interacting interfaces in thick liquid films (Gibbs dividing surface method, Rusanov's method based on a layer with a finite thickness, Hansen's method) as well as the thermodynamics of plane-parallel thin liquid films based on different models [membrane of zero thickness, membrane of finite thickness, two interacting dividing (as defined by Gibbs) surfaces] are examined. The bibliography includes 56 references.
