Characteristic features of the chemical kinetics of the formation of interpenetrating polymer networks

Abstract:
Data on the kinetics of the formation reactions of interpenetrating polymer networks (IPN) are surveyed. They are formed in the course of the simultaneous cross-linking in the reaction system of two three-dimentional networks which do not react chemically. It was established that the kinetics of the formation of the network components forming part of the IPN differ from those for the "pure" networks. The mutual influence of the networks formed on the kinetics of their formation depends on the composition of the IPN, the ratio of the rates of the component reactions, and the order in which the reactions are carried out. A characteristic feature of the formation of the IPN is that, even in the early stages of the reactions of the system, a thermodynamic incompatibility of the molecular fragments of the component networks arises as a rule. The bibliography includes 46 references.
