Abstract: Solid state reactions can be used to introduce one or more multivalent transition metal cations into high-silica zeolites. Most such cations cannot be introduced into these matrices by other methods. The influence of various factors on the processes of stabilisation of the cationic species in the zeolite channels is analysed. Pentasil-based systems with distinct, isolated centres form unique subjects for studying the relationship between the catalytic properties of the transition metal cation and the local structure of the centre. Highly active and stable catalysts for the complete oxidation of alkanes and for the decomposition of nitrogen oxides can be obtained by solid-state modification of the pentasils. The bibliography includes 65 references.
