The photogalvanic effect—a new mechanism of nonlinear wave interaction in electrooptic crystals
B. I. Sturman Institute of Automation and Electrometry, Siberian Branch of Russian Academy of Sciences USSR, Novosibirsk
Abstract:
It is shown theoretically that the photogalvanic effect in electrooptic crystals (also known as the bulk photovoltaic effect) provides an efficient mechanism for holographic recording and interaction of light waves which results in unidirectional energy exchange. This mechanism has different properties to the previously known drift and diffusion mechanisms, and may be used directly for optical measurements of the components of the photogalvanic tensor.
